Enclosed Cylinders
The following is information on our
enclosed cylinder with sectional rasp bar mountings for conventional combines.
The round periphery of the main cylinder
body, about 2 ˝" below the top arch of the cylinder bars, holds material against the concave surface, but also has adequate depth for larger crop components such as ears of corn to be fed thru without crushing, while the sloped leading face of the cylinder bar mount feeds material to the tooth area. The teeth on the rasp bars are spaced at ˝" apart. This wider spacing of the teeth pulls material thru more easily, and allows grain to channel between them…larger grains are not entrapped, but adequate overlap is maintained for threshing of small grains. This combination, in tandem with the resistance provided by the concave crossbars, rolls and fluffs material much more easily than lower profile cylinder bars, and lessens the requirement for tearing up trash for separation—cleaning shoe load is greatly reduced, lessening returned grain, and faster cylinder speed requirements are also reduced, both of which help to prevent cracking.
Shorter castings allow mixing of harder
alloys for longer service life, since warping is not a consideration.
Cylinder balance is much easier to
maintain, since material can't get inside. |
